Cell Signalling in Plants

Biology & Environment ScienceProfessor Carl Ng5 creditsAutumn

Plant growth and development are controlled by interactions between the plant, environmental conditions and intrinsic developmental programs directed by plant hormones. This series of lectures will give insights into our current understanding of how signal transduction processes are organised in plant cells and appropriate examples from animals, yeast and bacteria will be used to illustrate both conservation and divergence of signalling mechanisms between different organisms. Topics that will be discussed include the role of lipid microdomains on plasma membrane and their role in cell signalling, organisation of two-component signalling systems and the architecture of MAP kinase signalling cascades.

Overall a good module. Carl does share the final exam question options in advance so plenty of time to study and the lectures provide a good overview of what you need to know. The only negative-ish thing is that he expects you to do background reading and get information from other sources for the exam, which can feel a bit overwhelming. But I ended up with an A+ after maybe two weeks of prep.
