1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you and Ratemymodule.ie, operated in Ireland by Raffael Richter("we", "us" or "our"), regarding your access to and use of the Platform.
By accessing or using Ratemymodule.ie, or by creating an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
These Terms are publicly available on the Platform and should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how personal data is handled.
2. About the Platform
Ratemymodule.ie is an independent student platform that allows verified users to rate and review UCD modules anonymously.
The Platform is a personal project created by Raffael Richter. It is notaffiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by University College Dublin (UCD).
The Platform does not operate a marketplace, process user payments, or display advertising.
3. Eligibility and Account Requirements
Access to account-based features is restricted to users who register with and verify a valid @ucdconnect.ie email address.
You must provide accurate information when creating your account and keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless you notify us promptly of unauthorised use.
Email verification confirms only that the account holder had access to the relevant email address at the time of verification. It does not mean that we verify the truth, accuracy or reliability of any review content submitted by that user.
We may refuse registration, restrict access or close accounts that do not satisfy these requirements or that are used in breach of these Terms.
4. Nature of the Service
The Platform provides a space for users to submit and view user-generated module ratings and reviews, including structured ratings for workload, difficulty, teaching quality, assessment fairness and interest, together with optional written comments, lecturer names and semester information.
Reviews and ratings on the Platform are provided for general information and discussion only. The Platform hosts user-generated opinions and commentary. We do not pre-screen all content before publication and we do not verify that user submissions are accurate, complete, balanced, current or reliable.
You should not treat content on the Platform as a verified statement of fact, formal academic advice, or a guarantee about any module, lecturer, teaching method or assessment experience.
5. User-Generated Content
Reviews, ratings, written comments, lecturer names, semester details, helpful votes and other submissions made by users are the views and statements of the individual users who submit them.
The Platform does not author, adopt, endorse or verify user reviews. Users are solely responsible for the content they post and for the consequences of posting it.
Because reviews may refer to real modules, lecturers, teaching staff or other identifiable individuals, users must take particular care to ensure their content is lawful, fair and based on genuine experience and honestly held opinion.
Reviews are displayed anonymously to other users, but we may link content internally to the submitting account for moderation, abuse prevention, legal compliance and the handling of complaints or data protection requests.
You retain any rights you have in content you submit, but you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, adapt for technical display, publish, make available, moderate and remove that content as needed to operate, secure, improve and administer the Platform and to comply with legal obligations.
6. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Content
You must use the Platform lawfully, responsibly and respectfully.
You must not post, upload, submit, vote on, or otherwise use the Platform to share content that:
- is defamatory, libellous, maliciously false or unlawfully damaging to a person's reputation;
- makes false or misleading allegations of fact, especially about identifiable individuals;
- contains personal attacks, harassment, bullying, threats, abusive language or hate speech;
- includes personal data about another person that is unnecessary, excessive or intrusive, including private contact details or other sensitive identifying information;
- is unlawful, obscene, discriminatory, fraudulent or otherwise abusive;
- infringes another person's intellectual property, confidentiality or other legal rights;
- impersonates another person or misrepresents your connection with any person or organisation;
- contains spam, manipulated engagement, or attempts to game ratings or helpful votes; or
- interferes with the operation, security or integrity of the Platform.
If you refer to a lecturer or other real individual, you must do so only where relevant to a genuine module review and you must avoid unnecessary identifying details. Statements should be framed as your honestly held opinion where appropriate and must not present serious allegations as fact unless they are true, lawful and can be properly supported.
7. Moderation and Content Removal
The Platform is moderated, but user content is not routinely pre-screened before publication. We do not undertake a general obligation to monitor all activity or all content posted on the Platform.
We may, however, investigate reports, moderate content, and remove, disable access to, hide, edit or restrict content where we reasonably consider it appropriate, including where content may breach these Terms, expose legal risk, harm users, or otherwise be unlawful or inappropriate.
Users may report reviews through the Platform. We may also suspend, restrict or terminate accounts where we reasonably consider that a user has breached these Terms or poses a legal, security or community safety risk.
8. Defamation and Complaints Procedure
If you believe that content on the Platform is defamatory, unlawful, inaccurate in a legally actionable way, or otherwise breaches your rights, please contact us at support@ratemymodule.ie.
To help us review a complaint efficiently, please include as much relevant information as possible, such as the review or page URL, the module concerned, the content complained of, why you believe it is unlawful or inaccurate, and your contact details.
We operate a notice-and-takedown approach. Where we receive a sufficiently clear complaint or otherwise obtain actual knowledge or awareness of allegedly unlawful content, we may review the material, seek further information where appropriate, and remove or disable access to content where reasonably necessary.
We may preserve relevant records and, where appropriate and lawful, disclose information to competent authorities or otherwise take steps necessary to protect legal rights, safety and the integrity of the Platform.
9. Limitation of Liability
We provide the Platform on an "as available" basis. While we aim to keep the Platform available and useful, we do not promise uninterrupted availability or that all content will be accurate, complete, reliable or suitable for your particular needs.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable Irish and EU law, we are not liable for user-generated content posted by users, including reviews, ratings, comments, lecturer references, helpful votes or reports, and we are not responsible for decisions made by you or others in reliance on such content.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or purely economic loss, including loss of opportunity, loss of data, loss of goodwill or reputational loss arising out of or in connection with the Platform.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms affects any mandatory rights you may have under consumer law.
10. Disclaimer of Endorsement
We do not endorse, recommend or approve any rating, opinion, statement or review appearing on the Platform. The presence of content on the Platform does not mean that we agree with it or that we have checked it for accuracy.
11. Intellectual Property
The Platform's software, branding, design, text, graphics, layout and other site content created by us or for us are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable permission to access and use the Platform for its intended personal, non-commercial purpose.
Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership rights in the Platform to you. Your right to use the Platform ends if your access is suspended or terminated.
12. Termination of Use
You may stop using the Platform at any time. If you want to request deletion of your account and associated reviews, you can contact us at support@ratemymodule.ie, subject to any retention that is necessary for legal compliance or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
We may suspend or terminate your access, remove your content, or restrict your use of the Platform where we reasonably consider that this is necessary because of a breach of these Terms, misuse of the Platform, legal risk, security concerns or operational necessity.
Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, including those relating to user content, complaints, liability, intellectual property and governing law, will survive termination.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect legal, operational or technical changes, or changes to the Platform.
When we do so, we will post the revised Terms on the Platform and update the "Last updated" date above. Where changes are material, we may provide a prominent notice through the Platform.
Continued use of the Platform after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, the Platform, or any non-contractual obligations related to them, are governed by the laws of Ireland.
The courts of Ireland will have jurisdiction in relation to such disputes or claims, subject to any mandatory rights or protections available to consumers under applicable law.
15. Contact Information
