Introduction to the principles and concepts of Horticulture through an understanding of the scientific basis of horticultural practice. Areas covered include: Importance of site selection for plant production under field and protected environments; Growing media; Propagation techniques (seed and vegetative propagation); Training and pruning techniques for food and amenity plants; Selection and use of different plant species for a range of landscape situations; Outline of Plant Protection Methods.

Was one of the chillest courses I took. You have one lecture a week, which is quite simple, and if you know any biology at all, you will be grand (but maybe even without it, you will be fine). Then you have a lab which takes place at Rosemount, and you are just planting seeds and plants, making grafts, and cutting the apple tree branches. Basically, an easy A+ for gardening. Assessments throughout the term are basically write-ups based on what you did in the labs, and if you've been there thats an easy A. Plenty of past papers for exam prep, granted it's an essay exam, but then the past paper questions tend to reapper and if you've been to the lectures, you will pass with flying colours.
